Wise Spending Tips This Christmas
Christmas season is just around the corner and along with the season of giving, the threat of overspending also looms large. Although Christmas is a time to give gifts to our friends and loved ones, it doesn’t have to mean that we have to go beyond our budget limits or get stuck in debt to show the spirit of giving.
It is possible to show people how special they are and how much we love them without getting ourselves into financial trouble. Here are some holiday spending tips for you:
1. Plan early. Create your own list of people you plan to give gifts to. Planning early is the best way to give someone the perfect gift without cramming or splurging. On your list, write down a choice of items that you think that person would like the best. Also, write down the amount of money you can spend for each one.
2. Shop online. Shopping online can literally save you hundreds of dollars compared to shopping at malls and regular stores. Take advantage of free delivery offers from online merchants especially if you place a large order. Just make sure that you’ll purchase from a reputable and legitimate online store that uses only a secured web server.
3. Make your own gifts. Hand made gifts that you made yourself are even more special. A gift doesn’t always have to be readily-made from a store. If you know how to sew or crochet, why not make a special piece of clothing or accessory for someone. Do you love to bake or cook? Why not share your passion by sending a friend homemade preserves, sweets or pastries? Gift baskets are also a wonderful idea in putting together gifts you made yourself.
4. Save early. Don’t wait until the end of the year before you start saving for the holidays. Make it a habit to start saving even just a small portion from your salary so that when the holidays come, you’ll have a budget ready for gift giving.
5. Recycle decorations. Don’t feel like you have to buy new Christmas decorations for your home every year. Instead, use your old ornaments and give them a new look by using your creativity and imagination.
6. Shop early. Prices tend to increase during the holidays so it’s best if you just make your purchases early. Don’t wait until December before you start shopping around for gifts.
7. Take advantage of sales. Take advantage of sales at any time during the year. You can get really great items for a lesser price if you buy them on a sale than if you wait for the holidays.
8. Go easy on your credit card. It’s so easy to just charge everything on your credit card and just worry about it when the bills start to come. But this is a risky attitude. Make sure that you only charge to your credit card what you can afford to pay back completely by your due date. Don’t risk your credit just because you’re feeling generous.
