Credit Repair Agencies- When Promises are Broken

When dealing with bad credit problem, most people would like to seek help from a credit repair agency. But the fact is, certain steps that credit repair agencies may advice you to do are simple steps that you can do on your own.
Have you ordered a copy of your credit report to check the status of your accounts? Have you tried speaking with your creditors to ask for a modification of your repayment terms? Have you evaluated your spending habits and tried to create a budget plan? Yes, these are simple steps that you can do by yourself without the need of a credit counseling service. Nevertheless, if you really feel that you can’t do it on your own, find a reliable credit counseling agency to work with.

It is worth noting that some fake credit repair agencies make unreasonable promises such as fixing your credit in an instant. Unfortunately, some people believe that they can enjoy good credit instantly, without doing anything at all. This is a big lie! Bear in mind that the only way you can enjoy good credit once again is you can pay off your debts and if you stay consistent with your repayment. No credit repair organization can give your credit score an instant lift no matter how much you pay for their service.

Watch out for credit repair companies that require you to submit an upfront payment without first rendering any service. Credit repair agencies are supposed to provide assistance to people who are stuck in debt. Obviously, charging high fees for their services isn’t going to help at all. Find a non-profit credit counseling agency who will give you genuine assistance without requiring expensive charges.

How can you distinguish a real credit counseling agency from a fake one? A genuine counseling service should address the root of your debt problem. Your credit counselor should help you come up with a budget plan so you can stay consistent with your repayment. A genuine credit counselor can also speak with creditors on your behalf and try to arrange a negotiation.

Moreover, a credit counseling agency must not insist that you enroll in their debt consolidation program without first considering other possible solutions to your problem. Some debt relief agencies may use a debt consolidation program to make money from their clients.

However, if debt consolidation is really necessary, make sure that you are aware of all the terms and conditions of the program. See to it that your payments are promptly submitted to your creditors. Make sure that your credit counseling agency reports your payments to the three major credit bureaus to update your credit report.
